TOUR DESCRIPTION

Experience It! The Amalfi Coast
The Amalfi Coast is a favored getaway for Italians and vacationers alike – everyone seeks out its relaxed atmosphere and Mediterranean sunshine. The town of Amalfi itself is a historic center home to a towering marble cathedral and atmospheric piazzas. Amalfi was formerly a thriving trading hub, rivaling that of Venice. As a Maritime Republic, the town made its money through import and export, a legacy still interwoven into its culture today. Although Amalfi is the coast’s namesake origin, other towns along the rocky cliffs draws visitors from near and far. Find Sorrento, Positano, and more, all exuding the Amalfi vibe of winding roads, pastel-colored houses, and pebbly beaches. Travel among lemon trees and hillside groves as you make your way along the picturesque coastal drive.

EXTEND YOUR VACATION

Optional 5 Days 3-Night Florence Pre Tour Extension
LAND ONLY … Double Occupancy: $899.00 Per Person / Single Occupancy: $1,199.00 Per Person
3 Meals: 3 Breakfasts

Day 1: Overnight Flight – You are on your way to Florence, the ‘cradle of the Renaissance.’

Day 2: Florence, Italy – Tour Begins – Get settled into Florence for your 3-night stay.  Take time to get acquainted with the area on your own.

Day 3: Florence – Start your morning with a locally guided walking tour of Florence’s cultural treasures, passing by the Duomo, the Baptistery, the Palazzo Vecchio, and the Piazza della Signoria.  The afternoon is yours to browse the shops of via Tornabuoni, or perhaps visit one of the city’s great museums* such as the Uffizi or the Accademia, which houses Michelangelo’s statue of David. Today breakfast will be included.

Day 4: Florence – Explore Florence’s bohemian Oltrarno district during a guided walking tour of the city’s Left Bank.  Oltrarno literally means “on the other side of the Arno,” the river which runs through Florence. Grasp the spirit of this “Florence of the Florentines”: here the last craftsmen, the market stalls, the gardens and churches, the typical restaurants and cafés still move at the gentle rhythm of everyday life, away from the hustle and bustle of Florence’s more famous monuments.  The Oltrarno was so dear to the Medici family – Florence’s great rulers – that they made it their home by establishing themselves in the Pitti Palace.  The remainder of the day is yours to explore more of Florence. Perhaps you’ll venture up to Piazzale Michelangelo, a panoramic terrace offering charming views over the city’s towers and domes. Today breakfast will be included.

Day 5: Florence – Rome – Your Florentine sojourn comes to a close today. Say Arrivederci! as you transfer to Rome by high-speed train** to begin your tour. Today breakfast will be included.

Follow a local expert guide on a three hour, in-depth visit through this vast collection.  Highlights include the Gallery of Maps, the Gallery of Tapestries and, of course, a visit to the Sistine Chapel.  The chapel’s famous ceiling frescoes took Michelangelo four years to complete.  His brilliant Last Judgment, which rests on the altar wall, was a topic of controversy for centuries.  Other walls feature paintings by Pietro Perugino, Sandro Botticelli, Cosimo Rosselli and Domenico Ghirlandaio.  Your final stop will be at St. Peter’s Basilica, one of the most important churches in Christendom, and until recently, the largest in the world.  Please note this option must be booked at least 90 days prior to departure and is not guaranteed while on tour.  Due to the nature of this optional item, it is non-refundable. Spend some free time to soak in Capri’s charm.  Browse elegant designer shops or sip a coffee in the Piazza and simply watch the world go by.  A special ride along the funicular takes you back toward the Marina Grande to board your boat for the return to the mainland.  This option is weather permitting and boats may depart from Naples during certain times of year. Duration:  Approximately 9 hours.  Please note a minimum of 20 passengers is required.  Transportation is included.

Rome – Trastevere Food Tour – $120 Per Person
Follow your expert guide on an engaging tour of Rome’s more epicurean side.  Your culinary journey takes place in the bohemian Trastevere district, where medieval architecture meets ivy-clung houses and the lively chatter from the many eateries sprinkled through the neighborhood echoes off the cobblestoned streets.  Partake in the local tradition of aperitivo (pre-dinner drink) before tasting your way through Rome’s most representative street food, such as supplì (fried rice ball) and pastas.  Top off your culinary exploration with a taste of artisanal gelato and learn how to tell a good one from a factory-made, ensuring you never eat a bad one again!  Duration: Approximately 5 hours.  Please note a minimum of 6 passengers is required.  Transportation is included.

You don’t want to miss a thing, so walking and standing for longer periods of time (2-3 hours) isn’t a big deal. A moderately paced two-and-a-half-hour walking tour, covering several miles, hills, and uneven surfaces, is no problem for you. Walking four miles over the course of a day is very doable, as is climbing into and out of various modes of transportation (tuk-tuk, cable car, zodiac, etc.). You can climb three flights of stairs easily and handle altitudes between 6,000 and 9,000 feet.
