OPTIONAL EXCURSION AVAILABLE IN HEIDELBERG Today you travel from Mannheim to the romantic and picturesque city of Heidelberg, home to the world-famous university of the same name. You will enjoy a comprehensive tour of this ancient city situated along the banks of the river Neckar, including a visit to Heidelberg Castle, one of the most important Renaissance structures remaining in Europe. Enjoy stunning views of the town and countryside from the castle ramparts. Your tour includes stops at key historical and cultural sights of the city, followed by free time to enjoy the area on your own. You will return to the ship by coach. This option is only available until 15 days prior to departure. After this time, the option may be purchased from your Tour Manager. Due to the nature of this option, once purchased it will be nonrefundable. Duration: Approximately 4.5 hours. Please note a minimum of 20 passengers is required. Transportation is included.

ACTIVITY LEVEL The overall activity level of this tour is a level 2. This means you like a balanced approach to travel. Walking two to three miles over the course of a day is no problem for you. You can partake in a two-hour leisurely walking tour, covering up to two miles (with included breaks). You can handle a variety of terrains, from cobblestone streets to moderate hills with relative ease and without assistance. You can climb two flights of stairs with ease. There may be 1 to 2 days on this tour when walking tours can cover 3 to 4 miles over uneven terrain. Expect some full days balanced with free time to recharge or set out on your own adventure. You can handle altitudes up to 6,000 feet. While this level is appropriate for travelers that require mobility assistance devices, there could be times when you may have to sit out on some of the included activities. In Cochem, the included walking tour is approximately 3 hours in duration. There is adequate walking required to cross the bridge into town, and expect to navigate through cobblestone streets on your way to Reichsburg Castle. In order to access the castle, there’s a ramp to walk up; there is no elevator available. |
