Day 1 – August 18, 2024 – Tyler to Amarillo (TX)
Departing American Tours at 6:00am, we will travel to AMARILLO today with lunch along the way Wichita Falls.  Along with our stretch breaks, we will arrive in Amarillo in time to freshen up a bit before dinner at the hotel.  If you so choose, there are wonderful options near our hotel for dinner on your own.  (L, D) 

Day 2 – August 19, 2024 – Amarillo to Cheyenne (WY)
We will travel through the Panhandle of Texas today, journeying into New Mexico where we will enjoy lunch in Raton, New Mexico. This afternoon, we will begin seeing the beautiful Rocky Mountains as we travel on to CHEYENNE, WYOMING for the night!  We will be setting our clocks back hour today!  (B, L, & D) 

Day 3 – August 20, 2024 – Cheyenne to Jackson Hole (WY)
Our journey today will be across the beautiful state of WYOMING!  Watch for wildlife and enjoy the beautiful scenery as we travel through the mountains!  This is truly a vast open space!  We will enjoy lunch in Rock Springs, Wyoming before continuing our journey into JACKSON HOLE!  This is a beautiful drive over the mountains, into the valleys to Jackson!  Again, watch for wildlife!  We will arrive in time to freshen up a bit before heading to enjoy dinner with BAR T-5 CHUCKWAGON COOKOUT & SHOW.  Traveling by horse-drawn covered wagon, this three-hour evening dinner and show will take us away into beautiful Cache Creek Canyon.  We will enjoy a full evening of great entertainment, western hospitality, and a dinner that will tantalize your taste buds.  (B & D) 

Day 4 – August 21, 2024 – Jackson Hole to LOWER LOOP to West Yellowstone
Today is the day!  We are going to pray for a clear day, as we travel to the South Entrance of YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK.  Hopefully, you will see the most fabulous mountains, the GRAND TETONS!  Keep that camera ready for not only spectacular mountains, but wildlife too!  After a brief stop at FLAGG RANCH, we will make our way into YELLOWSTONE!  We will tour the LOWER LOOP today, as our guide tells us how this beautiful park was found!  We will end the tour today in Gardiner, WY where we will spend two nights.  We will enjoy dinner that night at a restaurant of your choice close to the hotel.  (B) 

Day 5 – August 22, 2024 – West Yellowstone to UPPER LOOP to West Yellowstone
There is still so much more of YELLOWSTONE to see.  We will tour the UPPER LOOP today!  More beautiful scenery, wildlife, mountains, lakes, and waterfalls!  Do not forget your camera today!  You will certainly need it!  YELLOWSTONE is truly one of God’s wonderful wonders!  Tonight’ will be another enjoyable dinner near our hotel.  (B) 

Day 6 – August 23, 2024 – West Yellowstone to Gillette (WY)
We must say goodbye to YELLOWSTONE today as we travel out of WYOMING, up into MONTANA, and then back through more of WYOMING where the scenery is absolutely beautiful!  Who knows what the day will hold!  We will see many beautiful sights as we make our way towards our next day’s adventure!  Tonight, you will be free to enjoy one of the restaurants near our hotel.  (B & L)

Day 7 – August 24, 2024 – Gillette to Rapid City (SD)
Throughout our day, we will catch glimpses of four famous faces off in the distance.  However, before we get there to view them up close, we will first stop by CRAZY HORSE MEMORIAL.  This unbelievable carving in the side of the mountain will be completed in the next 15 years.  After lunch, we head straight for MT. RUSHMORE!  This massive sculpture, carved into Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills region of South Dakota, was completed in 1941.  This amazing work of art, roughly 60-ft.-high, depict U.S. presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln.  (B & D)
Day 8 – August 25, 2024 – Rapid City to North Platte (NE)
Today, we will travel out of SOUTH DAKOTA and into NEBRASKA.  With leg stretches and lunch along the way, we will arrive in NORTH PLATTE in time to freshen up before setting out for our GOLDEN SPIKE TOUR & DINNER.  Imagin a view that can only be seen from 104 feet in the air.  Take a short elevator ride to the top observation deck for a view that can only be seen from the top of the Golden Spike Tower.  Watch how Union Pacific crews “Keep American Moving”, and learn what it takes to classify nearly 13,000 rail cars a day.  (B & D) 

Day 9 – August 26, 2024 – North Platte to St. Joseph (MO)
Before departing North Platte, we have one more stop.  This morning, we will learn the history the NORTH PLATTE CANTEEN.  Over breakfast, we will learn how North Platte served almost seven million soldiers on their wat to fight in World War II.  After this short history lesson, we make our way to the KEARNEY ARCHWAY for a box lunch and a brief tour.   This historical experience tells the story of Nebraska and the Platte River Valley in the development of America.  We then make our way south into ST JOSEPH, MO for the evening.  (B, L, & D) 

Day 10 – August 27, 2024 – St. Joseph to Oklahoma City (OK)
This morning, we make our way further south into OKLAHOMA CITY.  After a few leg-stretches and stop for lunch, we will arrive at our hotel in time to freshen up before setting out for dinner.  (B & D) 

Day 11 – August 28, 2024 – Oklahoma City to Tyler (TX)
This morning, we make a brief stop at the OKLAHOMA CITY MEMORIAL & MUSEUM.  We will arrive before it opens to give you ample time to walk around the Memorial Grounds.  Once opened, you will be able to spend time touring the museum before we depart out for NORTHEAST TEXAS.  As they say … All good things must come to an end!  We will enjoy lunch and rest stops along the way.  Planning to arrive in TYLER around 5:00pm, we will take time to talk about all the beautiful things we have seen on this wonderful trip, exchange addresses and phone numbers with our new found friends, and make plans to take future trips with AMERICAN TOURS.  (B)

What is the CANCELATION POLICY on “Motor-Coach Tours” offered by American Tours?

  • Travel Insurance:  American Tours STRONGLY RECOMMENDS the purchase of Travel Insurance.  You may purchase Travel Insurance through another agency or purchase the Travel Insurance offered by American Tours.
  • Pre-Trip Cancelation Insurance (PTCI) offered by American Tours:  Pre-Trip Cancelation Insurance (PTCI) offered by American Tours provides peace of mind.  We make it easy for you to book now and know you are covered – just in case.  Despite your best laid plans, life sometimes gets in the way.  Trips (planned and paid for weeks or even months in advance) are sometimes impacted by unforeseen and sometimes unavoidable obstacles such as illnesses, vehicle accidents, injuries, family situations … the list is endless.  With our “PTCI” in place, all that is needed is a phone call or email to our office prior to the day of your tour’s departure making us aware of your need to cancel.  THAT IS IT!!  No paperwork.  No doctor’s note.  No police report. No explanation.  All that is required is a simple phone call or email.  You are then able to give your full attention to whatever set of circumstances caused the cancellation.  At the conclusion of the tour, a full refund check is mailed to your home address.  For “PTCI” to be in place, it must be purchased at time of registration.  “PTCI” covers you if you have the need to cancel between the FINAL PAYMENT DUE DATE and the DEPARTURE DATE of the trip.  These dates are different for each respective tour but can be found on each tour’s REGISTRATION FORM.
    • Customer cancels PRIOR to “Final Payment Due Date”:  In this case, the purchase of “PTCI” does not come into the equation.  The same policy will apply in this case whether the customer purchased PTCI or not.  The customer gets a FULL REFUND of all funds paid (including any funds paid for “PTCI”.
    • Customer cancels AFTER the “Final Payment Due Date”:  In this case, the purchase of “PTCI” IS IMPORTANT in this equation.  On the FINAL PAYMENT DUE DATE of the tour in question, the passenger’s funds are COMMITTED to the tour.  If the passenger HAS PURCHASED our “PTCI”, no matter the reason for the cancelation, the passenger receives a FULL REFUND of all funds paid mines to price of the purchased “PTCI”.  If the passenger has not purchased to offered “PTCI”, no matter the reason for the cancellation, there are NO REFUNDS of any funds paid.

Level 1: The tour operates at a very leisurely pace and involves some minimal physical activity such as climbing stairs, boarding a motorcoach, walking into a museum or other venue, and walking from the hotel reception area to hotel rooms and dining areas.

Level 2: This tour requires average physical activity. You should be in good health, able to walk some stairs and walk reasonable distances, possibly over uneven ground, and cobblestoned streets.

LEVEL 3: This tour includes moderate physical activity. The itinerary blends some longer days with shorter days. You should be in good health, able to walk a flight of stairs or more and participate in walking tours or nature walks possibly over uneven ground and cobblestoned streets with periods of standing.  There could be some early and late activities, and temperature and altitude changes.

Level 4: This tour is active, requiring participants to be good physical shape to fully enjoy the experiences. This itinerary has more activities which may include such things as longer walking tours over uneven ground, transfers over uneven and dusty terrain, high altitudes, or early morning departures. All conditions do not apply to all days, so please read the itinerary carefully and speak to one of our Reservations Coordinators to determine if this tour is right for you. Unfortunately, this tour is not appropriate for individuals who use wheelchairs, scooters, walkers, or similar equipment.
